Trojans, viruses and spyware

One of the most common problems is a slow computer because of Trojans and pop-ups.

So what is a Trojan horse for computers?  The name comes from the fact that these programs masquerade as programs that you would want.  You download this, but actually get something else – pop-ups, spyware, malware, etc.  Just like the Trojan horse at Troy.

How do you know?  Pop-ups come up every time you go on the internet.  Often, you cannot use the computer because they come up so often.  Your screen fills with pop-ups.

Sometimes you are told you have Trojans.   The program gives you a long list of trojans on your computer.  You are directed to a site where you are told you should download their program to remove the Trojans for $69.  I know of no legitimate program that automatically starts and asks for money.  Don’t pay it.

Download malwarebytes Anti-malware if you can.  Run it.  If that clears up the problem, consider yourself lucky.  If not, you probably need to call for help.
